About Year

Year stores data you provide to us, but we don't collect or buy any other data to identify you. We never sell your data and encrypt all passwords, so whatever data you give to Year stays with Year.

Year was created by a team of students at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. We may receive periodical advisement from others to ensure regulatory and legal compliance.

Generally, we try to keep Year a student-only platform to allow for the most productive and free discussion. We encourage teachers to let students moderate themselves and operate independently, as interfering often has other unintended consequences and can discourage students from speaking freely on the platform.

Year is segmented into school groups which each moderate themselves but must operate according to a central set of rules, as oulined here. All groups are moderated by students in their respective schools, and general moderation (including ensuring that schools adhere to the platform's use policy) is delegated to a central group of volunteer moderators. Generally, you shouldn't have to worry about a post or thread being banned unless it promotes illegal or dangerous content. Misinformation on the platform is handled on a case-by-case basis but is always removed if the person is speaking in bad faith or to intentionally mislead.
